Minister Noonan to Brief Finance Committee on Details of New Eurozone Deal in Dáil Chamber

25 Iúil 2011, 17:18

The Oireachtas Committee on Finance and Public Expenditure will receive a detailed briefing from the Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan TD on the results and consequences for Ireland arising from last weeks’ crunch Eurozone summit tomorrow, (26th).

25th July 2011

The meeting will be held in the Dáil Chamber itself at 4pm.

Minister Noonan will outline to Committee members the precise detail of the agreement reached by Eurozone members at last Thursday’s meeting. It will also give the Committee an opportunity to question the Minister regarding the exact implications the new programme has for Ireland and what the changes could mean for the Ireland’s fiscal situation.

Committee Vice-Chairman, Liam Twomey TD said;
“Prior to last week’s summit, many were describing it as one of the most important meetings ever attended by any Irish Government. Therefore, I think it is beneficial that the Committee has this opportunity to tease out the details of what was agreed. These new arrangements have huge implications for Ireland and its economic plight so it is crucial to be fully informed.

The meeting will also enable the Committee to establish the exact nature of the negotiations which led up to the deal and what the future holds for Ireland in the aftermath of the pact.”
