Finance Committee to meet with AIB Chairman and Bank of Ireland CEO

13 MFómh 2011, 16:39

The Chairman of Bank of Ireland, David Hodgkinson, and the Group Chief Executive of Bank of Ireland, Richie Boucher will appear before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform tomorrow, Wednesday, 14th September, as part of its overview of the issues facing the economy and the banking system.

Committee Chairman, Alex White TD said: “The crisis in our banking system is a continuing one with billions being paid out to recapitalise our banks, making it one of the most expensive banking crises globally. The impact of the crisis on the nation’s finances as a whole and on individual people and businesses in particular has been momentous.

This meeting will provide members of the committee with an opportunity to question the heads of the two largest banks in the country on their current status in order to get an in-depth picture of the present condition of the Irish financial system, particularly efforts to restore the banks’ balance sheets to free up credit which is essential for economic recovery.

Our meeting with the banks tomorrow should contribute to our understanding of the issues facing our State. The primary purpose of this series of meetings is that the members of the Joint Committee get an overview of the major issues facing the economy, so that members can focus on the specific areas it wishes to pursue as part of its Work Programme to the end of 2011.”

This meeting will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, 14th September, in Committee Room 4, Leinster House 2000 at 2pm.
