Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education to discuss 20,000 into employment by 2020 strategy

15 Samh 2011, 17:42

Representatives from Fasttrack to Information Technology (FIT) will appear before the Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education tomorrow, Wednesday 16th November, to discuss the “20,000 into employment by 2020” strategy.

Chairman of the Committee Deputy Damien English said: “FIT is an industry-led initiative which works in close collaboration with government departments and national education and training agencies, local development organisations and a host of community based organisations. Its mission is to promote an inclusive Smart Economy by creating a fast track to marketable technical skills for those at risk of unemployment long term.

Hundreds of thousands of people in this country have lost their jobs in the recession that followed the banking collapse and property crash and any effort to reduce unemployment and create jobs is welcome.

It is important that we hear first hand about all current and future proposals on job creation and initiatives to help reduce unemployment.

In January 2011, the FIT Board set out a new strategy of supporting ‘20,000 into employment by 2020’. Tomorrow we will have an opportunity to get an in-depth presentation on this strategy, an update on its progress and a chance to question FIT on how the strategy will address unemployment.”

This meeting will take place on Wednesday 16th November in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000 at 2pm.
