Finance Committee to review Fiscal Assessment Report

16 Samh 2011, 14:42

Representatives from the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council will attend the meeting of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform tomorrow, Thursday, 17th November to discuss the findings of its Fiscal Assessment Report which was published last month.

Committee Chairman, Alex White TD said: “The Irish Fiscal Advisory Council was established in June 2011 to independently assess, and comment publicly on, whether the Government is meeting its own stated budgetary targets and objectives. In its report which was published in October it recommended that the Government brings in a larger than currently planned package of spending cuts and tax increases to get our budget deficit down much quicker than is currently envisaged. Tomorrow will be the Council’s first appearance before an Oireachtas Committee and we are looking forward to examining the report in-depth. We will have an opportunity to question Council members on their budgetary analysis, their assessment of the current fiscal situation, how they arrived at their figures for cuts and tax increases over the coming years and their rationale for recommending greater cuts and tax increases.”

This meeting will take place tomorrow, Thursday, 17th November, in Committee Room 4, Leinster House 2000 at 2pm.
