The Committee on Health and Children will meet tomorrow, Friday, 18th November at 10.30 am in Leinster House to discuss the issue of child poverty.
The Committee will meet and be briefed by representatives of Social Justice Ireland and the End Child Poverty Coalition, a partnership of eight national non-governmental organisations.
Chairman of the Committee on Health and Children, Jerry Buttimer, TD said: \"Child poverty is a hardship delivered on the most vulnerable in society. The effects of child poverty and the steps that can be taken to ultimately eliminate it will be top of our agenda at tomorrow’s meeting.
Now more than ever this issue deserves our attention. We must ensure that our children, especially those who are marginalised, do not slip through the net. In my view, it doesn’t seem too much to ask that every child under 17 has access to basic human needs and rights; education, adequate food, appropriate clothing and shoes and a warm clean bed. I look forward to our discussions tomorrow.”
The Committee will meet at 10.30 am on Friday, 18th November, in Committee Room 2, Leinster House 2000.
