Sub-Committee on Environment, Community and Local Government to discuss 2011 Supplementary Estimates for Public Services

6 Noll 2011, 14:57

The Sub-Committee on Environment, Community and Local Government will discuss the 2011 Supplementary Estimates for Public Services – Vote 25 (Environment, Community and Local Government) with Minister of State with responsibility for the New Era project, Fergus O’Dowd, TD.

Committee Chairman Ciarán Lynch, TD said: “The Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government has proposed making a contribution of €10m to the funding package provided for in the Copenhagen Accord for the three year period 2010-12.

According to the Department, the opportunity to make the contribution arises from capital savings in the 2011 Vote of the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.  The moving of a supplementary estimate is necessary to provide for the transfer of €10m in savings to an appropriate subhead in the Department's Vote.

In advance of the Copenhagen climate change conference in December 2009, Ireland committed to making a contribution of up to €100m towards a 'fast-start-finance' package to be provided by developed countries over the three-year period 2010-12 to assist developing countries in addressing climate change.

Tomorrow’s meeting will afford members of the Sub-Committee an opportunity to discuss this supplementary estimate with Minister of State Fergus O’Dowd and to raise any issues they may have on the matter.”

This meeting will take place on Wednesday, 7th December, in Committee Room 4, Leinster House 2000 at 10.30am.
