Invitation to Photo call where Ceann Comhairle and Cathaoireach will launch “A Brief Guide To How Your Parliament Works”

15 Noll 2011, 16:54

The Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann, Seán Barrett TD and the Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann, Senator Paddy Burke will launch “A Brief Guide To How Your Parliament Works” at 11.30a.m. tomorrow, Friday 16 December 2011 at the Plinth, Leinster House on Kildare St.

This guide, which is written in Plain English and has been awarded the Plain English Mark by NALA (National Adult Literacy Agency), explains how the Houses of the Oireachtas works, including Dáil Éireann, Seanad Éireann and Committees.

Welcoming the publication of the guide, both the Ceann Comhairle and Cathaoirleach acknowledged that the language often used by our Parliament can appear confusing and jargon filled to the public.

Ceann Comhairle, Seán Barrett TD said “The language used should help, not hinder, the public in understanding the work and relevance of Parliament to our everyday lives.”

Cathaoirleach Senator Paddy Burke said “This guide is a very welcome development in making the Parliament more accessible to those that matter the most – the public.”
