4 Feabh 2013, 15:45

Minister for Health James Reilly TD will attend the Sub-Committee on Health tomorrow, Tuesday, 5th February 2013 for the Committee Stage of the Public Health (Tobacco) (Amendment) Bill 2013.

Committee Chairman, Jerry Buttimer TD said: “The Minister introduced the Public Health (Tobacco) (Amendment) Bill 2013, in response to a European Court judgment requiring Ireland to end setting a mandatory pricing level below which cigarette prices could not be lowered. Its aim is to amend the Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2002; to repeal certain provisions of the Tobacco Products (Control of Advertising, Sponsorship and Sales Promotion) Act 1978; and to provide for related matters. It also gives the Minister for Health the power to issue new guidelines on the sale and marketing of tobacco. Tomorrow, the Bill will receive detailed consideration and members will have the opportunity to propose and discuss any amendments to the legislation as published.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow, Tuesday, 5th February, 2013 at 5pm in Committee Room 2, LH 2000.
