The Joint Committee on Health and Children will meet tomorrow to continue its Pre-Legislative Scrutiny on the General Scheme of theAdoption (Informative and Tracing) Bill 2015.

The new legislation will provide a statutory basis for the provision of information related to adoption. Officials from the Department of Children and Youth Affairs will attend the initial session to outline the Heads of the Bill.
The schedule for the meeting is as follows:
Session A:
Dr. Geoffrey Shannon, Chairman and Ms. Patricia Carey, Chief Executive, The Adoption Authority of Ireland.
Session B:
Mr. Fred McBride, Chief Operations Officer; Mr. Cormac Quinlan, Interim Director Policy & Strategy; Ms. Siobhan Mugan, Interim National Manager for Adoption, Tusla, Child and Family Agency.
Session C:
Mr James Reilly TD, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs.
Committee Chair, Jerry Buttimer TD says: “Tomorrow’s meeting marks our third session of Pre-Legislative Scrutiny on this very important piece of draft legislation. We will hear from the Minister, The Adoption Authority of Ireland and Tusla. The meeting will focus on issues including the need to balance the rights of birth parents to privacy, with the rights of adopted people to access records pertaining to their birth and adoption. Adopted people very often have a yearning to trace their birth family and the need to know one’s origins and history is widely acknowledged as being crucial to a sense of identity and overall well-being.”
The meeting will start in Committee Room 2, LH 2000, at 9.30am tomorrow, Thursday 22nd October 2015.
