Dáil Business Committee to host symposium on EU affairs and impact of Brexit

20 MFómh 2016, 11:20

The Dáil Business Committee will host a symposium on Europe Union Affairs and the economic implications of UK withdrawal from the European Union. The symposium for members of the Dáil, Seanad and European Parliament will inform debate in advance of the new Parliamentary Session.

Leading economic, diplomatic, business and union representatives will address the symposium which will take place in the Mansion House on 22nd September 2016.

Ceann Comhairle Seán O Fearghaíl said: “Given the unique historic, geographic, cultural, social and economic ties between Ireland and Britain, it would be fair to say that the UK’s withdrawal from the EU could have a greater impact on Ireland than any other EU State. As legislators there is an onus on us to be fully informed on the possible implications of ‘Brexit’ on this country in particular and on the EU in general. That is the aim of this symposium – to bring together representatives from business, the union movement and semi-State bodies as well as economists and diplomats to examine the key issues and help inform debate and thinking as we head into the new parliamentary session.”

The agenda for the symposium is:
