Housing Committee to consider Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill

11 DFómh 2016, 12:06

The Joint Committee on Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government will tomorrow meet to consider the General Scheme of the Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2016.

11th October 2016

The purpose of the Bill is to provide for the implementation of a number of priority legislative commitments in the Government’s ‘Rebuilding Ireland – An Action Plan for Housing and Homelessness’.

In attendance will be:

• Officials from the Department of Housing Planning, Community and Local Government;
• Representatives from the Irish Planning Institute;
• Representative from Threshold.

Committee Chairperson, Maria Bailey TD, said: “Housing is obviously a critical issue in Ireland at the moment, so focused analysis of this vital piece of draft legislation is very important. The main provisions in the draft legislation relate to the introduction of fast-track planning arrangements for large-scale housing and student accommodation developments, and the streamlining of timelines for local authority own development proposals through the part 8 processes.”

“It also provides for tenancy protection measures and strengthens the powers and functions of the Residential Tenancies Board in respect of both landlord and tenant matters.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 3, Leinster House at 9:30am tomorrow, Wednesday, 12th October 2016.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
