12 DFómh 2016, 14:24

12 October 2016

The Joint Committee on Health will tomorrow meet with Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, and Officials from the Department of Health, to discuss the practice of Open Disclosure in the Health Service.

The meeting will commence at 9.00am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Thursday, 13 October 2016.

Committee Chairman, Dr. Michael Harty TD, said “Open Disclosure, the practice of staff in the health and social care service communicating with service users in an open and honest manner when an adverse event occurs, is a positive step in patient care. This voluntary practice has been piloted over the last number of years and efforts are now being made to further support a national open disclosure policy.”

“In this regard, we look forward to meeting with Dr. Holohan and his officials tomorrow to be briefed on Open Disclosure provisions which, it is understood, will be included in the Department of Justice and Equality's Civil Liberties (Amendment) Bill.”

The Committee will also engage in Scrutiny of EU legislative proposals: Schedule A COM(2016)547 and Schedule B COM(2016)548
