Social Protection Committee resumes discussions Labour Activation Measures

25 Ean 2017, 09:47

The Committee on Social Protection will resume its hearings on labour activation measures tomorrow, Thursday, 26 January 2017 when it meets with representatives from Ibec, SIPTU, ICTU and the Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed.

Committee Chairman John Curran said: “Labour activation measures were a key issue identified and prioritised by the Committee in our work programme. The Committee has already met with officials from the Department of Social Welfare to get an update on the current situation regarding labour activation measures. Tomorrow, we will continue our examination of the issue when we will hear from representatives from Ibec, SIPTU, ICTU and the Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed. We are keen to get the perspectives of employers, unions and the unemployed on what measures are necessary or desirable to deliver activation places and opportunities to people who are unemployed, to incentivise take-up of opportunities through back-to-work education and training and to support employers in the recruitment of people who are unemployed.”

This Committee will meet at 10am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Thursday, 26 January 2017.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
