Chairman of Revenue Commissioners will also address Committee

01 February 2017

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will resume its hearings on EU State Aid Investigations into Tax Rulings tomorrow, Thursday, 02 February at 9.30am in Committee Room 2.

The agenda for the meeting is as follows:

Session A: Mr Michael Noonan TD, Minister for Finance;

Session B: Mr Niall Cody, Chairman, Office of the Revenue Commissioners.

Committee Chairman, John McGuinness TD, said, “In its final ruling on the way in which Apple pays tax in Ireland, the European Commission stated that the tax rulings granted by the Irish Revenue Commissioners to Apple in 1991 and 2007 amounted to state aid. At our meeting with Commissioner Vestager earlier this week, Committee Members were keen to ensure that Ireland’s corporation tax system is not in any way undermined by the European Commission. Tomorrow, Minister Noonan will outline the Government’s position on the Commission ruling and will update us on the Government’s appeal against the Commission ruling.”

“Minister Noonan will be followed by Mr Niall Cody, Chairman of the Office of the Revenue Commissioners.  Mr Cody will brief us on the implications for the Irish Tax Code in terms of future determinations by the Revenue Commissioners.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

The meeting will be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV:
