Transport Committee to meet with Union representatives on the current situation at Bus Éireann

14 Feabh 2017, 17:12

14 February 2017

The Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport will tomorrow meet with workers unions to continue their discussions on the current situation at Bus Éireann.

The Committee will hear from Mr. Willie Quigley, Unite the Union, Mr. Greg Ennis, Service Industrial Professional and Technical Union (SIPTU), Mr. Dermot O’Leary, National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU), Mr Patrick McClusker, Transport Salaried staffs’ Association, (TSSA) and Mr. Sean Heading, Technical Electrical and Engineering Union (TEEU).

The meeting will commence at 1.30pm in Committee Room 3 tomorrow, Wednesday, 15 February 2017.

Committee Chairman, Brendan Griffin TD, said “Any proposed restructuring of services within Bus Éireann could have a knock on effect to both customers and workers and, in this meeting, we will engage with the relevant Unions representing workers’ rights to hear their concerns. Any narrative of uncertainty naturally leads to concern amongst workers and we welcome the opportunity to hear from these representative bodies about the very real implications that their members could face in light of any proposed restructuring of services.”

“In this series of meetings, we have so far heard from Ministers Ross and O’Donovan, representatives of Bus Éireann and the Irish Rural Link in an effort to explore the current financial situation in Bus Éireann and how any possible negative impact can be mitigated before the customer, worker or organisation is affected.”
