Finance Committee to discuss Report on the Cost of Motor Insurance

15 Feabh 2017, 13:28

The Joint Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 16 February at 9.30am in Committee Room 2.

15 February 2017

Mr. Eoghan Murphy, Minister of State with special responsibility for Financial Services, eGovernment and Public Procurement, will brief the Committee on his Department’s Report on the Cost of Motor Insurance (published last month).

Committee Chairman, John McGuinness TD, said, “The rising cost of motor continues to have a negative impact on Irish society, Irish business and the overall economy. In November, our Committee published its report on the raising costs of motor insurance (Read the report here). That report made recommendations on how to reform the motor insurance sector and ultimately bring about acceptable and sustainable  premiums  for  citizens and businesses.”

“Tomorrow, Minister Eoghan Murphy will present and discuss his report with the Committee.  It will be an opportunity for our members to engage directly with the Minister on his plans to implement the recommendations of both reports, which should lead to fairer premiums for consumers.”

The Dáil will debate both reports tomorrow evening at 5.48pm.

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

The meeting will be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV:
