21 Feabh 2017, 10:13

21 February 2017

The Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport will tomorrow meet with Ms. Anne Graham, Chief Executive Officer of the National Transport Authority and officials from the Department of Social Protection to continue their series of meetings on the current situation at Bus Éireann. In this context, the Committee will also examine the Rural Transport Programme and the Free Travel Pass Scheme.

The meeting will commence at 9.00am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Wednesday, 22 February 2017.

Committee Chairman, Brendan Griffin TD, said “As we continue our series of meetings, before reporting our findings to Government, the Committee will now hear from the National Transport Authority (NTA) and officials from the Department of Social Protection. There is no question that the solvency of the commercial arm of the company is of deep concern to management and any restructuring of services would, of course, have implications for the National Transport Authority as well as the service users and staff. In this regard, we welcome the appearance of Ms. Graham tomorrow to discuss what measures could be taken to allay concerns and protect services for commuters around the country.\"

“Members will also have a chance to discuss the important role that the Rural Transport Programme and Free Travel Pass Scheme play with officials from the Department of Social Protection, the body responsible for administering the schemes.”

The meeting will be broadcast live on Oireachtas TV; Saorview Channel 22; Virgin Media Channel 207; Sky Channel 574; eir Vision Channel 504 and Vodafone Channel 201 and online here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
