Finance Committee to discuss investment opportunities

The Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will meet tomorrow, Thursday, 04 May at 10am in Committee Room 2, Leinster House.

The meeting will focus on improving investment opportunities in the wider economy and the following witnesses will address the Committee:

·Mr. Andrew McDowell, Vice-President, European Investment Bank and;
·Mr. Nick Ashmore, Chief Executive Officer, Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland.

Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD, said, “Tomorrow, the Joint Committee will meet to discuss investment on an EU wide level, as well as how Ireland can leverage greater investment to promote economic growth, in particular to address the deficiencies  in capital investment. The meeting also affords the Committee an opportunity to review developments in regard to the Investment Plan for Europe (Juncker Plan).  Mr Ashmore will brief the Committee on the progress made by the Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland (SBCI) since it began to provide loans to Irish SMEs and also its contribution to improving investment opportunities in the wider economy.

“In the second session of our meeting, Mr. Padraig Dalton, Director General of the Central Statistics Office (CSO) will assist the Committee in its scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposal COM(2017)114 – a proposal for Regulation of European business statistics which has the potential to impact significantly in the collection and sharing of business data.”
