EU Committee to discuss this year’s European Semester process, including the National Reform Programme, with the ESRI and Social Justice Ireland

The Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will meet tomorrow to discuss the National Reform Programme, as part of the European Semester Process. The Committee will hear from Dr. Alan Barrett and Dr. Edgar Morgenroth of the ESRI and Ms. Michelle Murphy and Mr. Eamon Murphy of Social Justice Ireland.

The meeting will commence at 2.00pm in Committee Room 1 tomorrow, Wednesday, 10 May 2017.

Committee Chairman, Michael Healy Rae TD, said “The European Semester Process supports policy-making through enhanced analysis and the shared understanding of issues and challenges across the Member States. The National Reform Programme allows Ireland to set out its strategy for the year ahead, which is useful alongside other parts of the process which provide an update on how we are performing under the terms of the Europe 2020 strategy targets. All of this work will lead to the formation of Country Specific Recommendations, as we all help each other to improve.”

“Both the ESRI and Social Justice Ireland have been active participants in this process and so we welcome the opportunity to meet with them tomorrow to hear about how we are performing in areas such as employment, research and development, climate change and energy, education and social inclusion and what we might do to continue to improve for our citizens.”
