Finance Committee to engage on Brexit with Second Secretary General in the Department of the Taoiseach

15 Beal 2017, 14:12

The Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach will meet tomorrow, Tuesday, 16 May at 4pm in Committee Room 3, Leinster House.

Mr. John Callinan, Second Secretary-General at the Department of the Taoiseach, will appear before the Committee. The appointment of a Second Secretary-General in the Department of the Taoiseach was part of the Government response to the Brexit vote to ensure a whole of Government approach to Brexit. The appearance is timely following the EU’s Chief negotiator – Michel Barnier’s address to the Oireachtas last week and offers an opportunity to review issues affecting Ireland outlined in his statement and to hear a Government response.

Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD, said, “Tomorrow’s meeting is the preface to a series of sectoral specific meetings which the Committee is planning on Brexit. The Committee wishes to review recent developments on Brexit whilst also addressing the key issues which will feature in negotiations. The Committee will look at the effect on customs, tariffs and trade and the financial services sector as well as matters relating to passporting and equivalence concepts within financial services.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
