Housing Committee to focus on effect of short term lettings on housing and the rental market

20 Meith 2017, 16:06

The Joint Committee on Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government will meet tomorrow at 9.30am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

The Committee will discuss the impact of short term lettings on the housing and rental market.

Session A: Officials from the Department of Housing, Planning, Community & Local Government and representatives from Dublin City Council.

Session B: Representatives from Focus Ireland, Simon Community and the Peter McVerry Trust.

Committee Chairperson, Maria Bailey TD, said: “Short term lettings are becoming more prevalent right across the country. While a source of income for many, there are also problems associated with the practice. Taking long-term units out of the rental market affects supply and has a knock-on effect on rents. Tomorrow the Committee will engage with various stakeholders on the myriad issues around short term letting and what can be done to mitigate any negative consequences.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
