Committee Chairman Fergus O’Dowd TD said: “The Capital Sports Expenditure Programme provides much-needed assistance to a variety of clubs and organisations across a range of different sports. Tomorrow, we will examine the programme in greater detail, in particular how the funding is divided among the valid applications and the level of funding various sports receive.
It is also an opportunity to discuss funding for minority sports. While high-profile sports and major sporting organisations such as the FAI, GAA and IRFU usually fare well from funding, we will be keen to see how a number of minority sports are catered for. It is important that we encourage people to become involved in sport and to ensure that as many people as possible can participate in the sport of their choice and that these sports are adequately funded.”
The Committee will start at 1.30am on Wednesday 28 March 2018 in Committee Room 2, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here. Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
