The impact of MetroLink construction on local amenities will be on the agenda of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport at its meeting on Wednesday, 25 April 2018.

The Committee will hear from representatives from National Transport Authority; Transport Infrastructure Ireland; CLG Na Fianna and Home Farm Football Club; Scoil Chaitríona, Scoil Mobhí and Prospect Architectural Conservation Area.

Committee Chairman Fergus O’Dowd said: “Last month Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the National Transport Authority published its preferred route for Metrolink, the proposed north south rail service. While not finalised, the emerging route is to run between Swords and Sandyford along a 26 Km route, with a large proportion underground. However, concerns have been raised about the impact of the construction of Metrolink on a number of communities and local amenities, in particular Na Fianna GAA club in Glasnevin, Home Farm Football Club in Whitehall, Scoil Mobhí primary school and Scoil Chaitríona secondary school. It is estimated that the project will take six years to complete and there is some disquiet in the community about the effect this may have in terms of noise, pollution, traffic and the loss of amenities and sports grounds. Tomorrow, we will examine the issue in greater detail with the National Transport Authority and Transport Infrastructure Ireland, while we will also get the perspectives of local residents and representatives from schools and sports organisations in the area.”

The Committee will start at 1.30pm in Committee Room 2, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
