Transport, Tourism & Sport Committee to focus growth strategies for tourism industry

Growth strategies for the tourism industry over the coming years will be on the agenda of the Oireachtas Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport at its meeting on Wednesday, 2 May 2018.

The Committee will meet with 2025 Eoghan O'Mara Walsh, CEO, Irish Tourism Industry Confederation to discuss its report Tourism: An Industry Strategy for Growth to

Committee Chairman Fergus O’Dowd said: “Tourism is Ireland’s largest indigenous industry employing 230,000 people nationally, according to figures from the Irish Tourism. It also provides jobs in all areas of the country, rural and urban with many local communities benefiting from revenue generated by visitors. However, despite the success of the tourism industry to date, it is important that we continue to develop and invest in Ireland’s tourism offering. The Irish Tourism Industry Confederation sets out a roadmap for the sector’s growth in the coming decade. Tomorrow, we will examine the report in greater detail, identify the key growth areas, potential challenges and what State agencies should be doing to sustain and grow the industry.”

Before it meets with the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation, the Committee will also carry out scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals: Schedule A: COM(2018)137 on L Category Vehicles and scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals: Schedule B: COM(2018)69 and COM(2018)122.
