State Claims Agency to attend Finance Committee

4 Beal 2018, 10:02

The Director from the State Claims Agency will attend a meeting of the Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, and Taoiseach on Tuesday, 8 May 2018 to discuss its handling of claims made against State bodies with particular regard to claims in the medical area.

The meeting will take place at 1.30 pm in Committee Room 3, Leinster House.

Committee Chairman John McGuinness TD said: “The State Claims Agency handles negligence claims on behalf of public bodies, including claims arising from medical cases. Given recent events, it is opportune that the Committee engage the State Claims Agency to discuss its handling of claims made against the State. There has been considerable disquiet around the approach adopted in defending claims, particularly medical claims, against the State. Therefore, it is important that the agency appears before the Committee to answer questions on its role in handling these cases.”

Committee proceedings can be viewed live here and can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
