European Affairs Minister McEntee to brief EU Affairs Committee on Brexit, migration, long-term budget

25 MFómh 2018, 12:12

European Affairs Minister Helen McEntee TD will discuss the latest on Brexit negotiations, the EU’s budget plans and migration challenges across the continent at Wednesday’s meeting of the Joint Committee on European Union Affairs.

Minister McEntee is expected to begin her opening remarks at 3:30 p.m. in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House.

The meeting can be viewed live here and on Android and Apple devices using the Houses of the Oireachtas app.

“As the day grows near for the United Kingdom’s departure from the EU, much more progress needs to be achieved to avoid the real prospect of a `no deal’ Brexit and all the economic and social upheaval that could entail,” said Committee Chairman Michael Healy-Rae TD.

“Even without the profound difficulties presented by Brexit, the EU faces a daunting range of challenges in the months ahead on which Ireland must be fully engaged,” Deputy Healy-Rae said. “These include reaching agreement on the next strategic budgetary plan, the so-called Multiannual Financial Framework for 2021-2027, and the need to keep improving coordination and cooperation so that migration can be managed more humanely and consistently across the EU.”
