The Committee on Justice and Equality will continue pre-legislative scrutiny of the general scheme of the 38th Amendment of the Constitution (Role of Women) Bill at its meeting on 26 September 2018.

The schedule for the meeting which takes place at 10am in Committee Room 2 is:

Pre-legislative scrutiny of the general scheme of the 38th Amendment of the Constitution Bill (Resumed)

Justice Catherine McGuinness

Dr Helen Russell

Family Carers Ireland

Irish Country Women's Association

Stay-At-Home Parents Association Ireland

Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said: “On Wednesday, we will resume our hearings on the Government proposed 38th Amendment to the Constitution Bill that seeks to delete Article 41.2 from the Constitution. While it is generally agreed that the current wording of the article on the role of women cannot be maintained, there are a number of different views on how to proceed, in particular should the article be deleted or amended to reflect the role of carers in the home. The aim of our pre-legislative scrutiny is to get the perspectives of the various sides to help inform the final drafting of the legislation."

Before the Committee resumes its hearings on the general scheme of the 38th Amendment of the Constitution Bill, the Committee will discuss a motion on the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing the Internal Security Fund. Minister for Justice and Equality, Charles Flanagan will attend this session of the meeting which begins at 9am in Committee Room 2.        Committee proceedings can be viewed live at https://www.oireachtas.ie/en/oireachtas-tv/cr3-live/.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
