1 DFómh 2018, 03:55

Leading climate scientist at the UK Met office Professor Peter Stott will provide a presentation on the impact of climate change to the Joint Committee on Climate Action at its meeting on Tuesday, 2 October 2018.

Chair of the Joint Committee Hildegarde Naughton TD said: “On Tuesday, the Committee will resume its examination of the Citizens’ Assembly Report; "How the State can make Ireland a Leader in tackling Climate Change" when we will meet with Professor Peter Stott. Professor Stott is a climate scientist who leads the Climate Monitoring and Attribution team of the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research at the Met Office in Exeter, UK. He is an expert on human-made and natural climate change. We will be very interested in getting Professor Stott’s perspective on how rising global temperatures caused by human activity are impacting on our lives, particularly the extreme weather events of recent times. We will also be keen to discuss what mitigation measures he sees are necessary to reduce Green House Gas emissions in the short, medium and long term.”

This meeting will start at 6.15pm in Committee Room 2. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
