Community Policing and rural crime on Justice & Equality Committee agenda

The Committee on Justice and Equality will focus on community policing and rural crime at its meeting on Wednesday, 3 October 2018.

Addressing the Committee on the issue are:

Dr. Johnny Connolly, School of Law, University of Limerick    Representatives from Muintir na Tíre    Representatives from Foróige 

Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said: “We understand that there is a sense of fear, frustration and vulnerability among many living in both rural and urban areas at the level of crime in their communities. At our meeting we will consider the issue and how policing and a strong Garda presence in communities can help deal with the problem.”

Before its hearings on community policing and rural crime, the Committee will carry out:

Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals: Schedule A: COM(2018) 478 on establishing a framework for interoperability between EU information systems (borders and visa); COM(2018) 480 on establishing a framework for interoperability between EU information systems (police and judicial cooperation, asylum and migration);

Scrutiny of EU Legislative Proposals: Schedule B: COM(2018)449; COM(2018)451; COM(2018)458; COM(2018)459; COM(2018)526; COM(2018)527; COM(2018)528; COM(2018)530; and COM(2018)563
