PAC to question OPW over costs of delay in moving Department of Health staff to new premises

10 DFómh 2018, 13:33

Officials from the Office of Public Works (OPW) will appear before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) tomorrow morning to discuss their Appropriation Accounts 2017.

The Committee will also engage with the OPW on matters relating to the lease of offices by the OPW at Miesian Plaza, Dublin.

“The OPW leased office premises in Miesian Plaza on Baggot Street, in order to relocate staff from the Department of Health and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs to that premises,” said Committee Chairman, Seán Fleming TD. “Despite leasing the building, the premises remained unoccupied for 18 months and the delays resulted in wasteful expenditure of €11 million. We will want to know how this occurred and the lessons learnt from it.”

The Committee will also examine the C&AG’s audit opinion on the OPW’s appropriation account, with particular focus on procurement rules, property leasing and flood risk management.

The meeting will start at 9am in Committee Room 3, Leinster House.
