Budgetary Oversight Committee to discuss IFAC report on Budget 2019

30 Samh 2018, 17:46

The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will discuss the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council’s assessment of Budget 2019 on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m.

Scheduled witnesses include IFAC Chairman Seamus Coffey, other members of the independent body and IFAC’s secretariat team.

IFAC’s Fiscal Assessment Report published on Nov. 28 analysed the expected impact of Budget 2019 as well as the fiscal and macroeconomic situation and associated risks.

Among its recommendations, the advisory body called for greater focus on achieving budget surpluses, citing Ireland’s strong current performance and its reliance on cyclical sources of revenue.

“IFAC stresses the need for prudence in expenditure given the global uncertainties that face Ireland. It identifies Brexit, protectionist pressures and potential shifts in the international tax environment as particular causes for concern,” said Committee Chairman Colm Brophy TD. “The Committee welcomes the chance to discuss IFAC’s views in depth on these and other matters.”

The meeting in Committee Room 2 can be viewed live here.
