Seanad Éireann invites President of the GAA John Horan to address the House

28 Ean 2019, 16:01

On foot of an invitation from Seanad Éireann, President of the GAA, Mr. John Horan, will address the House tomorrow on Tuesday, 29th January to discuss the important role the GAA has played in the civic life of Ireland.

Under Seanad Éireann procedures, people from public and civic society may be invited to address the House on specific issues. Cathaoirleach of the Seanad Senator Denis O’Donovan said: “We are hugely honoured that the President of the GAA, Mr. John Horan, has agreed to address Seanad Éireann. We are looking forward to his contribution on Tuesday, and an engaging discussion on the GAA and the integral and influential role and impact which this great  amateur sporting organisation has on all aspects of Irish life.”

Mr. Horan’s address to the House will commence at 1.30 pm and will conclude after two hours.

The address is expected to reflect on the role of the GAA and its role as the primary custodian and promoter of our national sporting culture, its very positive fostering of regional and national identity, its contribution to reconciliation among the different traditions on the island of Ireland, and the way in which it has facilitated the integration of new communities.

This address can be viewed live here. Proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
