Committee on Business, Enterprise and Innovation to discuss future of ODCE

18 Feabh 2019, 15:07

On Tuesday at 4 p.m., the Joint Committee on Business, Enterprise and Innovation will discuss legislative proposals to create a new Corporate Enforcement Authority in succession to the existing Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement.

ODCE Director Ian Drennan will address the Committee as part of its consideration of the General Scheme of the Companies (Corporate Enforcement Authority) Bill 2018.

The Bill proposes to evolve the ODCE into a stand-alone agency with more investigative tools and autonomy to recruit specialist staff, including forensic accountants.

“The Committee looks forward to hearing Mr. Drennan’s views on how the proposed creation of a Corporate Enforcement Authority would meet that increasingly complex challenge,” said Committee Chair Mary Butler TD.

Deputy Butler added: “Whenever a new statutory Agency is being set up we must learn from mistakes of the past and make sure that this new entity is fit for purpose.”
