Joint Committee on Housing, Planning & Local Government to discuss the topic of the Residential Tenancies Bill 2018 and the Anti Evictions Bill 2018

The Joint Committee on Housing, Planning & Local Government will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9.30 in Committee Room 1, Leinster House to  undertake scrutiny of the Residential Tenancies (Greater Security of Tenure and Rent Certainty) Bill 2018 and the Anti Evictions Bill 2018.

The Bills being considered tomorrow contain a wide range of measures covering:

*Student accommodation
*Deposits
*Rent transparency and rent reviews
*Changes to security of tenure relating to section 34 and part 4 of the Residential Tenancies Act
*Rent Pressure Zones

The greater Security of Tenure Bill is sponsored by Deputy Jan O’Sullivan and the Anti-Evictions Bill is sponsored by Deputies Paul Murphy, Mick Barry and Ruth Coppinger.

In advance of tomorrows meeting, the Chair of the Joint Committee, Deputy Maria Bailey, said: “The Residential Tenancies Board is the primary body dedicated to regulating the rental sector in Ireland and one of the only bodies that works impartially with landlords and tenants. Threshold, the IPOA and the USI also have valuable insights to provide on these two Bills. We look forward to hearing the contributions tomorrow.”
