Petitions Committee to consider petitions on FOI powers, Fermoy Weir, and teacher training for spectrum disorders

26 Márta 2019, 13:08

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will consider petitions on FOI scrutiny of the Presidency, repairs to the Fermoy Weir, and teacher support for children with spectrum disorders on Wednesday, March 27.

One petitioner calls for the Freedom of Information Act to be extended to the Office of the President.

A second petition seeks repairs and improvements to the Fermoy Weir on the River Blackwater in County Cork to encourage the migration of salmon upstream.

A third petition asks the Department of Education to ensure that all primary and post-primary teachers are trained to understand the special needs of children dealing with spectrum disorders, including autism, Asperger syndrome and ADHD.

“The Committee’s role is to give members of the public the opportunity to place issues of concern directly before the Oireachtas and to influence changes in public policy where appropriate,” said Committee Chairman Seán Sherlock TD. “We will give these petitions our full consideration before announcing, in public session, the decision on each one.”

The meeting at 1:30 p.m. in Committee Room 1 can be viewed live here.
