Justice Committee to hear about Direct Provision and the international protection application process

21 Beal 2019, 10:33

Tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9am, the Joint Committee on Justice and Equality will meet to discuss direct provision and the international protection application process.

Retired judge Dr Bryan McMahon, along with representatives from the Immigrant Council of Ireland and UNHCR Ireland, will appear before the committee.

The Immigrant Council of Ireland is a national, independent non-governmental organisation that promotes the rights of migrants. Similarly, UNHCR Ireland works with the Irish government, officials, NGO’s and other partners to protect people forced to flee their homes and support them to live their lives with dignity and respect.

Ahead of the meeting Committee Chairman Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin TD said:  “The purpose of our session on Wednesday will be to address the very important topic of direct provision and the international protection application process. The joint committee has long since identified immigration and the crises faced by people fleeing war and conflict as one of the priority issues for address on its work programme”.
