Joint Committee on Housing, Planning & Local Government to discuss Housing with Minister Eoghan Murphy

28 Beal 2019, 14:41

The Joint Committee on Housing, Planning & Local Government will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House when Eoghan Murphy, Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government appears.

The topics for discussion include Draft Exempted Development Regulations - Short Term Letting and a Quarterly update on Rebuilding Ireland - Action Plan for Housing and Homelessness.

In advance of the meeting, Chair of the Joint Committee on Housing, Planning & Local Government,  Maria Bailey TD said: “The Committee is eager to discuss these two topics with Minister Murphy at a time when we need to accelerate housing supply delivery, while also ensuring that existing housing supply is protected.

“From July 1, the use of a house for any short-term letting, as defined, in a rent pressure zone will be classified as a material change of use. This means that letting out a house for short-term letting in an RPZ will require planning permission. We look forward to getting an update from the Minister on this matter.

Deputy Bailey said: “The Committee also welcomes the opportunity to discuss progress to-date since Rebuilding Ireland was launched almost three years ago in July 2016, and the challenges and opportunities which exist to make better use of existing homes, drive new construction and improvements in the rental sector, and explore the broader aims of Rebuilding Ireland.”
