17 Meith 2019, 12:01

The Joint Committee on Housing, Planning & Local Government will meet tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11am in Committee Room 1, Leinster House to receive an update on Affordable Housing.

Representatives from the following organisations are due before the committee; The Housing Agency; The National Development Finance Agency; Dún Laoghaoire-Rathdown County Council and the Housing and Community Department of Dublin City Council.

“In January Councillors on Dublin local authorities - including Dublin City Council and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown - approved an Affordable Housing scheme, and we very much welcome the chance to engage with officials from both organisations and receive an update on progress to-date”, explained Chair of the Joint Committee, Deputy Maria Bailey, TD.

“The Committee is interested about the challenges which the Local Authorities face, and the perspective of The Housing Agency and The National Development Finance Agency will further add to the discussion.

Deputy Bailey concluded: “Local Authorities will face different challenges with the delivery of affordable housing, whether it is the cost of building or the development of appropriate infrastructure to support any housing development. Each local authority will be aware of the demographic need  in their area and the type of scheme required to meet that demand."
