Climate Action Committee to hear from international cycling experts

25 Meith 2019, 10:20

The Joint Committee on Climate Action will focus on active travel and urban planning with an emphasis on cycling at its meeting in Leinster House, Committee Room 3, tomorrow, Wednesday, 26 June at 2pm.

The Committee will hear from:

  • Representatives from Velo-City 2019 ‘Cycling for the Ages’ Conference
  • Brian Deegan, Urban Movement.
  • Dr Rachel Aldred, Reader in Transport, University of Westminster
  • Fabian Kuster, European Cyclists Federation

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee Chair, Deputy Hildegarde Naughton said: “Dublin is hosting the international cycling conference, Velo-City 2019 this week. We are very much looking forward to hearing from cycling advocates and experts in the area of cycling infrastructure and projects.

“This is an important and timely discussion. Our Committee’s report: Climate Change a Cross Party Consensus for Action calls for walking, cycling and public transport to become a default choice. Facilitating and encouraging active transport should be a major priority for emission mitigation in the transport sector.”
