Foreign Affairs Committee to hear from Irish Association of Development NGOs

The Foreign Affairs Committee will discuss inclusion of people with disabilities in Irish aid programmes with the Irish Association of Development NGOs and Dóchas at a meeting tomorrow, Tuesday 2 July in Leinster House at 2.15pm.

Members of the Dóchas Working Group on Disability in International Development will appear before The Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade and Defence.

Members of the working group due to speak are:

Charlie Lamson, CEO Sightsavers Ireland
Fatoumata Diouf, Sightsavers Regional Director for West Africa
Niamh Carty, Programme Director Oxfam Ireland
Dr Mary Keogh, Director, Disability Inclusive Initiative, CBM

 

Speaking in advance of the meeting, Committee chair, Brendan Smith TD said: “Ireland has had a long standing and historic role in addressing the needs of others beyond our own borders.  Our Members welcome the opportunity to hear from the Dóchas working group which promotes the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities in developing countries in aid programmes.”
