Retrofitting homes on agenda at Climate Action Committee hearing

9 Iúil 2019, 14:11

Experts in retrofitting homes to improve their Energy Rating will appear before the Oireachtas  Committee on Climate Action tomorrow, Wednesday, 10 July in Leinster House, Committee Room 3 at 2pm.

Officials from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and the Environment and representatives from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, the Construction Industry Federation, and the Tipperary Energy Agency will also attend the hearing.

The national energy retrofit targets, funding options available and the skills and training needed to meet retrofit targets will be up for discussion.

Speaking before the meeting, Chairperson of the Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action, Hildegarde Naughton TD said: “We said in our own report “Climate Change: A Cross-Party Consensus for Action” that ambitious policies to deliver needed emissions reduction in the built environment sector will not be easily achieved. The biggest barrier for householders relates to cost.

“Tomorrow’s meeting is an opportunity for us to explore issues and concerns raised about retrofitting homes to reduce carbon emissions. The type of work that is involved and the cost and funding concerns are two of the areas we will discuss. We particularly hope to hear from Departmental officials on the scale of work ahead to meet retrofit targets and their plans to achieve them.”
