ComReg will appear before the Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment in Leinster House tomorrow, Thursday, 11 July to discuss the potential for delivering rural broadband through a Universal Service Obligation (USO).
The hearing will take place in Committee Room 4 at 10am.
The appearance is part of the Committee’s ongoing investigation into the National Broadband Plan to date and its examination of the best means to roll out rural broadband.
ComReg regulates telecommunications, premium rates and postal services.
Speaking ahead of the hearing, chairperson of the Joint Committee on Communications, Climate Action and Environment, Hildegarde Naughton TD said: “We look forward to ComReg’s contribution to the meeting and to explore the potential for the use of a Universal Service Obligation.
“ComReg’s appearance on this issue is part of our overall investigation into the National Broadband Plan to rollout of rural broadband to more than 500,000 homes and businesses.”
