The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine postpones planned meeting with Minister Creed to discuss beef dispute

8 MFómh 2019, 11:00

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has decided not to proceed with its planned meeting next meeting with the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Mr Michael Creed TD, and Mr Michael Dowling, independent talks chairman, in relation to the dispute in the beef producing sector.

The decision to postpone the Committee meeting was taken in view of the expected recommencement of discussions tomorrow, Monday, 9 September, between stakeholders to resolve the dispute. The Chair of the Joint Committee, Mr Pat Deering TD, believes that it would not be helpful for the Joint Committee to be meeting on the issue at the same time that the stakeholder discussions are reconvening.
“Given the protracted nature of the dispute, and the impact that it is having on the beef sector, it is important that that the stakeholder discussions are allowed to proceed without any possible distractions,” Deputy Deering said.
The Committee hopes to re-engage on the issue as soon as the stakeholder discussions are concluded, he added.
