The Committee on Budgetary Oversight will tomorrow, hear from the Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform as part of its ongoing Pre-Budget Engagement.
Minister Paschal Donohoe will appear at 4pm, for the second of two public sessions following on from the appearance of representatives from The Irish Universities Association (IUA) earlier in the day.
Representatives from the IUA are due before the committee at 2.30pm to give their views in the context of the committee’s pre-budget consultation.
The IUA is the representative organisation for the seven Irish Universities, and among its roles are to act as an advocate for the university system, and develop sectoral policies and strategies. “With Tuesday, October 8 likely to indicate the make up of Budget 2020, the Committee welcomes the chance to hold a discussion on the budget and macro-economic issues with Minister Donohoe three weeks out from the Budget” said Committee Chairman Colm Brophy TD, ahead of the meeting in Committee Room 3 which can be viewed live here
“Similarly, the input of the IUA is something we very much look forward to. As an organisation the IUA advances third and fourth level education and research, and the social, cultural and economic well-being of our country.
“It is clear that we are faced with a number of important budgetary choices in specific areas of public expenditure, and with the potential fall-out from Brexit very much on the agenda, the insight of Tuesday’s witnesses is something we very much welcome”, added Mr. Brophy.
