PAC to meet with Officials from Bord na gCon, the Irish Greyhound Board

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will meet tomorrow, Thursday, with officials from Bord na gCon, the Irish Greyhound Board.

The meeting will commence with the Committee examining a number of significant and substantial items of correspondence from various government departments, and state bodies which have been received over recent weeks.

Bord na gCon - is a commercial semi-state body which is responsible for the control and development of the greyhound industry.

The Board has been given wide powers to regulate all aspects of greyhound racing in Ireland including the licensing of the different tracks, the issuing of permits to officials, bookmakers, trainers and the implementation of the rules of racing.

Thursday’s PAC meeting will examine the Bord na gCon 2017 financial statements which show that Bord na gCon received €16m in State funding in 2017.

Chairman of the PAC, Seán Fleming TD, said: “The Committee will be keen to examine the adequacy of governance arrangements in place to ensure value for money for the State’s investment, and the details of the internal financial controls regime in place.

Deputy Fleming added: “Furthermore, the implications of the sale of Harold’s Cross Stadium for €23m will be examined. The Board’s expenditure on animal welfare will also be explored.”
