Climate Action Committee to discuss Carbon Tax

The Joint Committee on Climate Action will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, when the topic of Carbon Tax is discussed with representatives from four organisations due before the Committee.

Representatives from the Economic and Social Research Institute and The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, along with officials from the Department of Finance, and the Department. of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, will appear.

In advance of the meeting, Committee Chair, Hildegarde Naughton TD, said: “The Committee has already made recommendations in relation to carbon charges and how they should be utilised. This meeting will discuss issues related to fuel poverty and the options for protecting the vulnerable in circumstances of increased carbon charges.”

“Climate change is a real and present threat. It is not tomorrow’s problem and can no longer be treated as such. The Joint Committee on Climate Action is recommending that a series of measures be taken by this and future governments to ensure the safety and prosperity of Irish citizens”, added Deputy Naughton TD.
