Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism & Sport to continue discussions around National Development Plan

The Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism & Sport will meet tomorrow, Wednesday to discuss matters related to Sport, and Transport in two separate sessions.

The meetings commence in Committee Room 4, Leinster House from 10am with three witnesses due before the committee for the first session, as the Committee continues its discussion of the National Development Plan.

Representatives from Transport Infrastructure Ireland return for the second time in a week, along with Officials from the Department. of Transport, Tourism and Sport, and Representatives from Meath County Council as the topic of the Julianstown By-pass is discussed.

Chairman of the Joint Committee, Committee Chairman Fergus O’Dowd TD said: “The purpose of Wednesday’s meeting is to understand the importance of the Julianstown Bypass, and its impact on the South Louth and East Meath communities.”

Later-on in the day, the Committee will continue its examination of the Challenges facing minority sports in Ireland, when representatives from Rowing Ireland appear for the second session.

Rowing Ireland is the national governing body for the sport of rowing across the island of Ireland, north and south. The organisation was founded in Dublin as the Irish Amateur Rowing Union on February 3rd, 1899.

“With almost 4,000 registered racing members in more than 70 clubs and universities around the country, with the overall rowing community estimated to be at two or three times this number. Furthermore, internationally Ireland has enjoyed significant success of late in rowing, and we very much look forward to this engagement”, added Deputy O’Dowd.
