Seanad Special Select Committee on Brexit to discuss education and energy implications for Ireland of the withdrawal of the UK from the EU

The Seanad Special Select Committee on the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union will tomorrow (Wednesday) discuss the education and energy implications of Brexit for Ireland.

The meeting of Senators at 2pm in Committee Room 4, Leinster House will hold two sessions with expert representatives from the sectors.

Session A will be dedicated to education and research with Professor Mark Ferguson, Director General, Science Foundation Ireland and Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government of Ireland, and Lisa Keating, Director of Research and Innovation, Irish Universities Association.

Session B will focus on energy with Rodney Doyle, Director of Market Operations and General Manager of SEMO, Eirgrid; Michael Mahon, Director of Grid Development and Interconnection, Eirgrid; Stephen Wheeler, SSE Thermal and Ireland Country Lead, SSE; and Denis O’Sullivan, Managing Director, Gas Networks Ireland.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s meeting, Committee Chairman Senator Neale Richmond said: “The Committee looks forward to engaging with sectoral representatives on how Ireland can best secure our future energy supplies and support and strengthen the critical areas of education and research in the post-Brexit era.”
