Minister for State for Mental Health to appear before Joint Committee on Key Issues Affecting the Traveller Community

Minister of State with special responsibility for Mental Health, Jim Daly will appear before the Joint Committee on Key Issues Affecting the Traveller Community, tomorrow, Tuesday, 15 October in Leinster House, Committee Room 1 at 11am.

Senator Joan Freeman, Dr Brian Keogh, TCD and representatives from Mental Health Reform, Department of Health, HSE and Clanwilliam Institute will also appear before the Joint Committee as it continues its deliberations on mental health and the Traveller community.

Speaking before the meeting, Chair of the Joint Committee, Senator Colette Kelleher said: “We are in no doubt that mental health affects Travellers to a far greater extent than the general population, and there is a crisis and epidemic. We want to hear tomorrow, what resources and services could help improve the situation and what plans are in place for a more adequate and appropriate, urgent response.”
