Oireachtas Education Committee welcomes Romanian delegation to Leinster House

Members of the Joint Committee on Education and Skills welcomed a delegation from Romania to Leinster House today, Thursday 24 October.

Leading the Romanian delegation was Mr Sorin Mihai Cîmpeanu, MP who is Chair of the Committee on Education, Science, Youth and Sport of the Chamber of Deputies in the Parliament of Romania. 

Deputy Thomas Byrne who chaired the meeting said: “The Joint Committee on Education and Skills was delighted to facilitate this meeting and the opportunity to meet with Mr Cîmpeanu and his Committee colleagues.

“It gave us an opportunity to exchange views on issues of common interest and discuss best practice in the education sector. One of the areas the delegation was particularly interested in, which our Committee has been exploring, is ways to promote apprenticeships and traineeships to students.”

The seven strong Romanian delegation included two of Mr Cîmpeanu’s Committee colleagues; Ms. Theodora Sotcan, MP and Mr. Anton Anton, MP and Ambassador of Romania, HE Mrs. Manuela Breazu. 

Children in Romania start school when they are about six or seven years old and education is compulsory until the age of 16.
